By Courtney Walsh

After a three-year hiatus, TEDxBoulder is thrilled to announce its long-awaited return to Chautauqua Auditorium on September 22, 2023. Under the theme “Then & Now,” this year’s event promises to be an extraordinary gathering of thought leaders, innovators, and visionaries ready to share their ideas that have shaped the world both in the past and at present.

Following the immense success of previous TEDxBoulder events, which have consistently left audiences inspired and intellectually invigorated, this year’s show is set to be even more remarkable. With the resumption of the beloved event series, TEDxBoulder brings together diverse perspectives, cutting-edge ideas, and groundbreaking insights to foster meaningful conversations and ignite transformative actions.

Why Boulder? Why Chautauqua?

Boulder, Colorado is the ideal place to host a TEDx event due to its vibrant intellectual and creative community. Known for its exceptional universities, innovative startups, and breathtaking natural surroundings, Boulder fosters an environment that embraces curiosity and fosters groundbreaking ideas. The Chautauqua venue embodies the spirit of TEDx, steeped in history and known for fostering intellectual exchange and cultural enlightenment. Its serene and picturesque backdrop of the Boulder Flatirons will delight speakers and attendees alike, facilitating an atmosphere of reflection, inspiration, and transformative conversations. Previous TEDxBoulder events hosted at Chautauqua have created unforgettable evenings where innovation and enlightenment have converged. We hope the same happens this year on September 22 tocreate a setting of togetherness and reconnection.

A New Face!

Allow me to introduce myself as a new face on the TEDxBoulder scene. I’m Courtney Walsh, a Boulder native and longtime resident passionate about this community and showcasing the beauty and brilliance of our place and people. I’m honored and humbled that Andrew Hyde has invited me to join him in co-hosting this year and taking over operations of this incredible event in the future.

I’m in awe of the incredible gift that Andrew has given this community by leading the charge and launching TEDxBoulder over 14 years ago. His steadfast dedication, diligence, and grace in keeping TEDxBoulder going through the years is a testament of someone who loves his community and its potential. Andrew’s expertise and dedication to curating captivating events have made TEDxBoulder an epic event and he is to thank for its triumphant return to Chautauqua this fall.

Of course, the revival of TEDxBoulder would not be possible without the extraordinary efforts of a dedicated team of volunteers. Andrew and I are proud to introduce the rockstar lineup of individuals who will help bring this exceptional event to life: Alejandro Paredes, Austin Braun, Stephanie Sladnick, Katie Gray, Erin Weed, Duncan Horst. Their combined talents, energy, and commitment to excellence will undoubtedly ensure an unforgettable experience for all attendees. Then & Now

The theme for 2023 “Then & Now” was chosen for TEDxBoulder return after a three-year hiatus, especially considering the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This theme allows for a reflective exploration of the changes, adaptations, and innovations that have shaped our world during this transformative period. It acknowledges the unique experiences and lessons learned, both individually and collectively, over the past few years.

‘Then & Now’ gives our speakers structure to reflect on the past and explore the impact of those experiences on our present. We’re eager to witness the exchange of ideas that will shape our future.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxBoulder, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxBoulder event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
