The Anticipation of Travel

An avid traveller, Jen has visited 6 of the 7 continents in the world. She explains how technology and media have led our over-expectations when it comes to travel . We create this image of travel in our heads based on what we are told to see, visit, do and eat and this sometimes leads to the feeling of being underwhelmed.

"We travel to resolve our desires, to take a break from the continuity of who we are at home, and that break doesn't when you take off, it starts the second you start to plan your trip." The anticipation of travel can turn into obligation, and increasingly disappointment. Travel has become a checklist although it is an intensely personal thing. Our society derives happiness from the anticipation of the trip and this needs to change -- we need to let go and let those moments just happen.
