TEDxBoulder

Chautauqua is again host to TEDxBoulder and has been a stunning venue for years, even back to the first TEDxBoulder in 2010. We love to call it home.

For some history, the Colorado Chautauqua, was established in 1898 as part of the Chautauqua movement that began in the late 19th century. The movement originated in New York with the aim of providing adult education and cultural enrichment through lectures, performances, and classes in a summer camp setting. The Boulder Chautauqua, set against the backdrop of the stunning Flatirons, quickly became a prominent hub for intellectual and cultural exchange in the West. Its founders envisioned a place where people could engage in lifelong learning, appreciate the arts, and participate in community activities.

During the early 20th century, the Colorado Chautauqua hosted a wide range of events, from educational lectures and music concerts to dramatic performances and spiritual gatherings. It attracted renowned speakers and performers, contributing to its reputation as a center for progressive thought and cultural refinement. The Chautauqua's appeal extended beyond local audiences, drawing visitors from across the country who were eager to experience its unique blend of education and recreation.

In the latter half of the 20th century and into the 21st century, the Colorado Chautauqua faced challenges such as financial difficulties and changing societal interests. However, it has experienced a revival as a cherished historical and cultural landmark. Today, the Chautauqua continues to uphold its founding ideals, offering a variety of programs, including lectures, concerts, and outdoor activities, while preserving its historic charm and commitment to lifelong learning. It remains a vibrant testament to the enduring value of community and cultural enrichment.

Chautauqua was the host of the first TEDxBoulder in 2010! You can feel the history in this gem.
